Come to Florence because we produce the same quality as Bayreuth, Salzburg, and Aix-en-Provence.

Alexander Pereira
General Director of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

The "Amici del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino" has been supporting and promoting the activities of the Maggio and thus the musical culture in Florence since 1987. Starting in 2022, the "Swiss Friends of Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino" will begin to support this cause by promoting the Swiss public's interest in and access to the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and by providing non-material and financial support to the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The expansion of cultural exchange between Switzerland and Tuscany strengthens traditional ties and releases innovative possibilities for the further development of music because music is a living art.

In the tradition of the Medicis and Strozzis and in the spirit of Zubin Mehta, the support of the "Swiss Friends of Maggio Fiorentino" helps to protect the enormous cultural heritage of Florence and to secure our future in this cultivated way:

Nancy Mehta: "We have thought of those who will come to this theater full of art. Of those who will then carry their experiences into their world, who will be touched and enriched by something they will keep with them forever. In this sense, the protection of civilization, the preservation of beauty, and its promotion are guaranteed for the future. This country, which I love very much, has given my husband and me more than wonderful moments throughout our lives; Zubin and I are very happy to be able to make this donation, hoping that it will be a good example for other people and inspire them to do the same."

The patronage of the Medicis and Strozzis is legendary and the foundation of Florence's extraordinary cultural heritage. Without them there would be no Duomo, no statue of David by Michelangelo and the Uffizi would stand empty. Also the first piano, built by Bartolomeo Christofer, was commissioned by Prince Ferdinando de' Medici. However, even though times have changed since the Medici, art still needs grants. Nancy and Zubin Mehta set an example by donating $1 million of their Tesla shares to Teatro Maggio, which the artistic director and mayor can use as they see fit. Both expect that their donation will be helpful, and both hope that this will inspire others, Italians and foreigners, to donate to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Music is a living art.
As it evolves, it eternalizes itself.
